Throughout Brian Doswell's article: Computer theft: whose crime is it? (Computer Bulletin, June 1995), one phrase he used haunted me: I believe that our basic freedoms in society depend largely on the lack of crime, and our level of policing is geared to most of us behaving in an orderly fashion.
